The First Bikini, A Tiny History
According to the official version, the modern bikini was invented by French engineer Louis Réard and fashion designer Jacques Heim in Paris in 1946 and introduced on July 5 at a fashion show at Piscine Molitor in Paris.
It was a string bikini with a g-string back.
Réard could not persuade any of the Parisian fashion models to wear his bikini, so he settled upon Micheline Bernardini, a nineteen-year-old dancer at the Casino de Paris. She was the first to ever model the modern day bikini.
Made out of a scant 30 inches of fabric, Reard promoted his creation as “smaller than the world’s smallest bathing suit.” Reard called his creation the bikini, named after the Bikini Atoll.
If you’re a fan of the bikini then you won’t want to miss the bikini content that Mickey and the cast are organizing.
The Coco’s Bikini Contest take place Saturday, July 21 at 3 p.m. at Coco’s in Grand Bend. Watch for the GRAND BENDERS TV crew who will be there catching all the excitement.
