MTV Acquires 20 Episodes of Grand Benders

MTV has acquired 20 episodes of the original docu-soap series Grand Benders. The announcement was made today by MDF Productions, Toronto-based producers of the series. Now in its third season, Grand Benders is produced by MDF Productions for bpm:tv with the support of the Canadian Media Fund (CMF). This recent deal was brokered by Jenna Bourdeau, Co-President of BuzzTaxi, which represents the series in the domestic and international market.

Grand Benders debuts November 1, 2013 at 10:30 pm (EDT) on MTV.

The series follows the exploits of the Rapaport family — Mickey, Nancy and Justin — owners of Cocos, a one-of-a-kind hotel, nightclub, restaurant and bar located on the strip in Grand Bend, Ontario — a legendary party place and hot-spot destination for over 100 years.

“Behind the sand, sun and girls in bikinis stands a family that has been keeping this beach town hopping for a generation,” says Peter Gentile, Executive Producer, MDF Productions. “We’re excited to share the unscripted world of Grand Benders with the MTV family.”

Grand Benders is a unique series that captures both the glorious insanity of summer in Grand Bend and the dynamics of a close-knit family running a business under pressure-cooker conditions,” added Don Gaudet, Vice President, Programming and Production for bpm:tv’s parent company, Stornoway Communications. We’re proud to have played a lead role in bringing the show to Canadian viewers, and very gratified to see the talented team at MDF Productions find success in bringing Grand Benders to new audiences.”

MDF Productions will be following the Rapaport family on their annual pilgrimage to The BPM Festival in January. The event takes place in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

BPM was founded in 2008 and was originally conceived as an industry event for people in the hospitality industry. The festival has since grown to become a global gathering of DJs, producers and electronic dance music fans. Approximately 35,000 people attended last year’s event.

Lead character, Mickey Rapaport (63), is an enthusiastic EDM fan and part-time DJ.

Grand Benders features original electronic dance music by Canadian producers Lonnie Szoke, Matt Lok, Joe De Simone, Robbie Riggs and others.

Lizzy, we do offer a particular ‘take’ on life in Grand Bend and some of the characters that live there during the summer months. Sorry you had a disappointing time. Sounds like it was a S-L-O-W night.
